served in the RNVR (SA) 1914-18. He enlisted in Cape Town (Service No 241) and I know that he was in SW Africa with the RNVR (SA) during 1914-15. It seems likely that he worked in the shore party there, disembarking and re-embarking the expeditionary force sent to the then German SW Africa, and handling the movement of supplies in between.
But thereafter I have no record of him until his demobilisation from the Navy in September 1918, and his enlistment in the 1st SA Infantry Brigade immediately thereafter. He has medals from both the first and second world wars. (see attached.)
This is probably a very long shot, but would your organisation have any archive material which might shed some light on what AB Gale did for the remainder of his Naval service? Alan Doyle
